Stagecraft Week 8:  What's BACK there? 
(SM, Crew, & Tech Director)
October 11-13, 2023 - Fall Break Week

Important terms are in RED.

Google Classroom assignments are in BLUE.

If ABSENT, you are REQUIRED to read / understand / do all activities posted for that day, even if it's not an "assignment".  

DAY 1: Groundplans / Spiking a set

1.) Chose:  Students chose an area (from the IB Learner Profile) to individually focus on this week.  (If Absent, be sure to choose your individual "focus" for the week, and write it down under Week 8 in your REFLECTION JOURNAL in Google Classroom.  (Also be sure you answered the "End of the Week" question for LAST week.)

2.) Introduced this week's CLASS focus:  Collaboration

3.) Watched a video (Stage Managers:  What do they DO? and responded in Google Classroom REFLECTION JOURNAL (Journal Title:  New things I learned about SM's) about 3 NEW things you learned about stage managers  (If absent, be sure to complete this on your own.)

4.) Reviewed:  

  • Callboard:  Where actors sign in and get announcements

  • "Spiking" a set:  putting down spike tape that outlines the set or furniture that will be on stage during a production (so actors can rehearse with the "real" outline of the set)

  • Groundplan:  A scaled drawing of the set as seen from above 

(1/2 class finished props tables / 1/2 class started learning about scale rulers & how to spike a set from a Groundplan)

DAY 2: Working in Scale / Spiking a Set

1.) Watched a video (Special Effects: Mary Poppins) and discussed problem-solving & collaboration with props. (If absent, be sure to watch this on your own.)

(1/2 class went to scene shop for set-building / 1/2 class started learning about scale rulers & how to spike a set from a Groundplan)

DAY 3: Working in Scale / Spiking a Set

1.) Watched a video (Working Backstage at Aladdin the Musical)  and responded in Google Classroom REFLECTION JOURNAL (Journal Title:  Technical Director & Load-in) to what you found interesting about a tech director or crew's role during the "load-in" of a show. (If absent, be sure to complete this on your own.)

(1/2 class went to scene shop for set-building / 1/2 class started learning about scale rulers & how to spike a set from a Groundplan)

4.) Completed final question for Week 8 in Google Classroom REFLECTION Journal and then went down to the scene shop (1/2 class went to scene shop & 1/2 class worked on props tables, then switched)
