Stagecraft Week 10:  What's BACK there? 
Costumes & Backstage "Quick Change"
(October 23-27, 2023)

Important terms are in RED.

Google Classroom assignments are in BLUE.

Ms. Price provides ALL learning for absent students in a self-directed format so if absent, just read & understand/complete each of the day's activities below.  You are EXPECTED to do so BEFORE returning to class.

DAY 1: 

1.) Finished props table for a grade.  (If absent, be sure Ms. Price knows which table you worked on.)

2.)  Chose an area (from the IB Learner Profile) to individually focus on this week.  (If absent, be sure to complete this under in your REFLECTION JOURNAL (week 10) in Google Classroom.  Discussed the class focus of COLLABORATION for this week.

3.)  Watched a video (Costume Design in Phantom) and responded in Google Classroom REFLECTION JOURNAL (Journal Title:  Costumes in Phantom) about 3 things you learned about costume design from the video. (If absent, be sure to do this on your own by the end of the week.)   If absent, complete on your own.

4.) Discussed the following:

  • What types of things, other than costumes, does a costume designer have to think about when designing costumes?

  • What is a "quick change room"?

  • What sorts of things (organization, etc.) did you notice in the quick change room featured in the video?

5.) Watched:  Quick Changes - Mary Poppins  (2:06) - watch if absent!

6.)  Read:  Quick Change Stations (notice what needs to be prepped, and in what order, for a quick change. (If absent, be sure to read/understand!)

7.) Took a "field trip" to the Costume Room in order to...

  • Familiarize yourself with where things are located in our OHS Costume Room

  • Pull costume pieces on your list for the person you plan to "dress" for quick change.

 

DAY 2:

1.)  Reviewed your individual (learner profile) focus for the week.  (Class focus = COLLABORATION)

2.)  Watched a video (Costume Design in Lion King) and responded in Google Classroom REFLECTION JOURNAL (Journal Title:  Beyond Costumes in Lion King) about what was considered with the design/maintenance of costumes in the Lion King -  beyond just clothing. (If absent, be sure to do this on your own by the end of the week.)

3.) Completed #3-7 from Day 1. (see above)

DAY 3:

1.)  Gathered your group's props table props to return to props room & took down blue light & tables.

2.)  Reviewed your individual (learner profile) focus for the week.  (Class focus = COLLABORATION)

3.) Watched a video (Costume Designer - 3:07) and responded in Google Classroom REFLECTION JOURNAL (Journal Title:  Costume Designer) about 2 things you learned about costuming/costume design that you were previously unaware of.  (If absent, be sure to do this on your own by the end of the week.)

4.) Watched a video (Costume Shop Manager) and responded in Google Classroom REFLECTION JOURNAL (Journal Title:  Costumes Shop Manager) about 3 things you learned about costuming that you were previously unaware of.  (If absent, be sure to do this on your own by the end of the week.)

5.) Returned props to props room (and finished getting costume room pieces, if needed).

6.)  Watched:  Quick Changes - Groundhog Day  (2:21) - watch if absent!

Discussed:

  • What specific things did you notice happening (with both actor and "dressers" during the quick changes featured?

  • What types of things would need to be considered or set up to do effective quick changes?

 

7.) Reviewed how to set up a Quick Change Station and teams set up their own.

8.) Practiced quick changes in teams (will compete on Monday with all class teams)

DAY 4:

1.)  Reviewed your individual (learner profile) focus for the week.  (Class focus = COLLABORATION)

2.) Watched a video (The Journey of the Dressand discussed with the class (something NEW that you learned).

(1/2 of class went to scene shop to work on set-building)

3.) Completed #4-8 from Day 3. (see above)
