Acting:  Week 15

(May 10-14, 2021)

Important topics/terms/instructions are in RED.

Google Classroom assignments are in BLUE.

Ms. Price provides ALL learning for absent students in a self-directed format so there is NO NEED TO ZOOM if quarantined

Just read & understand/complete each of the day's activities below.  You are EXPECTED to do so BEFORE returning.

Day 1:

1.)  Signed up (with a partner) for a scene to perform as the final Acting project.  (See the list of possible scenes at the bottom of this webpage.)   If absent or quarantined be sure you've chosen a scene/partner.

2.) Reviewed the W's of scene analysis:

  • What is going on?  (both on the surface and BENEATH the surface)

  • Why is this scene happening?  (What part(s) of the relationship are important to show?)

  • Where is the scene taking place?  (How does this impact the scene?)

  • Wants? (What is each character trying to do to the other character with his/her words? Express the want as a verb:  "My character wants to ___________ him/her")

3.) Finished watching a video on  Wants

While watching the video, be sure to take notes on what you're learning in your CLASS NOTES Journal - WANTS. (Google Classroom).   If absent or quarantined do the learning/notes on your own.

3.) Revisited the concept of "wants" in the scene To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday and verbed characters' lines, then Ms. Price led students through how to block a scene using the character's wants to determine movement.  (Blocking a scene this way puts the focus of the scene on the RELATIONSHIP between the characters.)

4.) Researched the play from which your chosen scene comes...in order to determine what the overall story is about, who the characters are, what time period and/or location the story takes place, etc.   If absent or quarantined be sure to do this on your own so that you know the context of your scene and the character you will be performing.

Day 2:

1.) Received a booklet to guide you through the final learning in this unit, and to help you prepare your scene for performance.  (If absent or quarantined be sure to ask Ms. Price for a booklet when you return.)

  • Completed page 3 in booklet   (If absent or quarantined be sure to complete this on your own.)

3.) Watched a video:  Stanislavski's method of physical actions

If absent or quarantined be sure to respond in your PROCESS Journal in Google Classroom (week 14)  Journal Title:   Playing the Action

After watching the video above, describe in your Acting Process Journal (Google Classroom - week 14)  what you found interesting in this video in which actors discuss the process of Stanislavski's system of using actions/objectives.

4.) Completed page 4-5 in your booklet  If absent or quarantined be sure to complete.

5.) Collaborated with scene partner to "verb" 5-10 of YOUR character's lines and then give believable action to each.  (Students tried put each "verbed" moment "on its feet" while working with scene partner.)
